Clive Booth Workshops
workshop terms
& conditions.
These terms apply to the one-day Movement and Light photography workshop at Birmingham Royal Ballet. We are currently collecting expressions of interest only. Registering interest does not reserve a place or create a paid booking. The booking and cancellation provisions below apply if you subsequently make a booking.
booking and payment
The workshop fee is £550 per person for one day, 10am–5pm (with optional questions until 5.30pm), on your chosen date: Saturday 30 or Sunday 31 January 2027. There are six places on each day. These are separate one-day workshops with the same programme; each experience price includes one workshop day. Bookings are not yet open. Registering interest records your preferred date and option so Clive can contact you when bookings open. No place is held, no payment is required and there is no obligation to book. When bookings open, you may pay a 50% deposit or the full price. A place is secured when the required payment has been received and booking confirmation issued. The Workshop (£550) requires a £275 deposit and £275 balance; The Complete Experience (£850) requires a £425 deposit and £425 balance; The Mentored Experience (£1,100) requires a £550 deposit and £550 balance. The balance is due on 2 January 2027 for either workshop date. Bookings made on or after 2 January 2027 require full payment. We will send a separate secure payment request for any balance due; it will not be charged automatically. Deposits form part of the total price, not an additional fee, and remain subject to the cancellation and refund terms below. The workshop cancellation schedule applies to the £550 workshop element; the separate terms for the edit and print package continue to apply to that package. Please check your selected date and contact workshops@clivebooth.co.uk promptly if your confirmation is incorrect or does not arrive.
cancellations and transfers
To cancel, email workshops@clivebooth.co.uk with your name and workshop date. If you cancel 30 days or more before the workshop, you will receive a full refund. For cancellations 15–29 days before, the maximum cancellation charge is 50% of the workshop fee; within 14 days it is up to 100%. Any amount retained will not exceed our reasonable net losses directly resulting from your cancellation, taking account of costs saved and any replacement booking. We will take reasonable steps to reduce those losses and refund any excess retained. You may ask to transfer your place to another photographer, subject to prior written approval and their acceptance of the workshop terms and image-use agreement. These provisions do not reduce your statutory rights.
if the workshop changes or cannot go ahead
We may make reasonable minor adjustments to the timetable or arrangements while preserving the advertised experience. We will notify you as soon as reasonably possible of any significant change to the date, venue, tutor or core workshop experience. If we cancel, or you do not accept a significant change, you may choose a refund of the affected workshop fee or a transfer to an agreed alternative date. You do not have to accept credit instead of a refund. If the workshop is cancelled before your edit, print or additional mentoring services begin, you may also cancel those unused services for a full refund. If work has already begun, we will explain the work completed and resolve the remaining services with you under the relevant terms below. Travel, accommodation and parking are booked independently; we do not routinely reimburse these costs, but this does not exclude any compensation you are legally entitled to receive.
what is included
- Full-day tuition with Clive Booth, with individual guidance and a practical pre-workshop guide.
- Equally weighted natural-light and continuous-light sessions, covering portrait lighting and shooting alongside dance photography. Sessions include demonstrations, image review, lighting changes and dancer rest breaks.
- Guided shooting with two elite Birmingham Royal Ballet dancers in the company’s studios, with opportunities to shoot individually and as a group.
- Dancer introductions, their personal journeys into dance, advice on photographing dance and feedback on your images.
- Image review with Clive using a provided laptop and EIZO 31″ reference monitor.
- A selection of Canon lenses and camera bodies will be available to try and share. Equipment is limited and cannot be guaranteed for every participant, so please bring your own camera and lenses. Particular models cannot be guaranteed.
- A digital assistant to help with file downloads and cameras.
- Coffee and pastries on arrival, and lunch. Please tell us about dietary requirements beforehand so we can confirm what can be accommodated.
Please bring your camera, suitable lenses, charged batteries and memory cards. Travel, parking, accommodation, personal insurance and personal expenses are not included. The optional edit and print package is included in the £850 complete experience or can be added later for £300.
The Mentored Experience
The Mentored Experience costs £1,100 per person. It includes The Complete Experience (£850): one full-day studio workshop, a private two-hour one-to-one Microsoft Teams editing and post-production session and two A3 archival fine-art prints with UK delivery. It adds a separate private two-hour remote creative mentoring session with Clive via Microsoft Teams, covering portfolio review, visual storytelling, personal style, lighting and creative direction. The mentoring date is agreed individually with you. The additional creative mentoring element is £250 of the £1,100 total. We will agree its date and completion timeframe with you before you book. You may register your interest now; registration does not reserve a place or require payment.
Changing or cancelling your additional mentoring session
Please give at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to reschedule; if this is not possible, contact us promptly so we can consider your circumstances. You may cancel the additional mentoring element within 14 days of purchase for a full refund of its £250 price. We will not begin that session during this period. For later cancellation, any deduction will be limited to the reasonable value of work completed and unavoidable net losses, taking account of costs saved and replacement bookings. We will explain any deduction and refund the remainder. If Clive cancels, you may choose another agreed date or a refund for mentoring not supplied. If the workshop is cancelled before mentoring begins, you may cancel the unused mentoring element for a full refund. These provisions do not limit your statutory rights.
Beyond the Workshop — From the Moment to the Print
The optional package costs £300 per person, making the complete experience £850 including one £550 workshop day. You may register interest in the £850 complete experience now. When bookings open, you may book the complete experience or book the £550 workshop and enquire about adding the £300 package later. Please do not purchase an upgrade again if your confirmed booking already includes it. It includes a private two-hour Microsoft Teams edit, post-production and colour-management session with Clive, using his livestream broadcast studio, and two personally made A3 archival fine-art prints on Hahnemühle fine-art archival paper, with a border of your choice. The prints are delivered in a folio wallet, with UK delivery included.
Clive Booth is a Hahnemühle Gold Certified Studio. Clive is also Canon MasterCraft certified. View the Hahnemühle certificate.
Your session and prints
Clive will receive your capture files, then work with you remotely on final selects and post-production before printing. The private session and delivery of your prints will be completed within one calendar month of the workshop, provided you supply your files promptly, are available for an agreed session, approve the final image selections promptly and confirm your UK delivery address. Keep your original files and a backup. We will provide file-transfer instructions and agree your session date with you. If delays in receiving your files, availability, approvals or address affect this timeframe, we will agree a revised completion date with you. If you upgrade too late for this timetable to be achievable, contact us before purchasing to agree a completion date.
Changing your session
Please give at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to reschedule. With less notice, contact us as soon as possible; we will consider individual circumstances. Any charge will be limited to reasonable unavoidable net losses, taking account of costs saved and replacement bookings, and will be explained to you.
Cancelling the package
You may cancel within 14 days of purchasing the package for a full refund by emailing workshops@clivebooth.co.uk. We will not begin your session or print production during that period. If you cancel later, we will refund the balance after deducting the reasonable value of work already completed and any unavoidable net losses. We will explain deductions, take reasonable steps to reduce losses and will not charge twice for the same loss. The workshop cancellation schedule applies to the £550 workshop fee, not this package.
If Clive cancels your session, you may choose another agreed date or a refund for services and prints not supplied. If the main workshop is cancelled before work on your package begins, you may also cancel the unused package for a full refund. These options do not limit any other remedy you are legally entitled to receive.
Print delivery
We will contact you promptly if a delivery delay arises. Please contact us if your prints arrive damaged or incorrect so we can put things right. Your statutory rights remain unaffected. Your copyright and the image-use permissions below also apply to the supplied prints.
insurance
Insurance documentation confirming cover for the January 2027 workshop dates will be added once available. Please contact Clive if you would like confirmation before booking.
For insurance enquiries before booking, please email workshops@clivebooth.co.uk. Participants are responsible for arranging their own equipment, travel and personal insurance as appropriate.
your information and privacy
Clive Booth, trading as Clive Booth Workshops, is responsible for the personal information used to organise these workshops. You can contact him at workshops@clivebooth.co.uk or at the business address below.
Bookings, payments and participant agreements
We use your name, contact details, booking information and correspondence to arrange and deliver your workshop and any optional edit and print package. This is necessary to provide the services you request. Acuity Scheduling handles online bookings and records your participant agreement, including your typed name. Stripe processes payments; please enter payment-card details only through the payment service, not by email. We use payment confirmations and transaction references to administer bookings, upgrades and refunds.
We retain agreement records to document the permissions and obligations applying to workshop photographs. Our legitimate interests are administering those permissions and resolving queries or disputes. Financial records are also retained where required by law. A booking does not automatically subscribe you to future workshop marketing.
Expressions of interest
With your consent, we use your name, email address, preferred workshop date and preferred workshop option to send information about this workshop and notify you when bookings open. Netlify processes and stores website form submissions. You may also contact us by email. This does not subscribe you to unrelated marketing. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing workshops@clivebooth.co.uk; this does not affect the lawfulness of earlier processing.
Your photographs and the private edit
We use the capture files you supply to review your work and, where purchased, make final selections, carry out post-production and produce your prints. Microsoft Teams is used for the remote session. We will explain the file-transfer arrangements before you send files. Your delivery details are used to send your prints and shared with the delivery service as needed. Keep your original files and a separate backup: this service is not a long-term image archive. Supplying photographs for tuition or printing does not give us permission to use them in our marketing.
How long we keep information
Booking and financial records are kept for the periods needed to deliver the services, meet accounting obligations and deal with relevant claims. Agreement records are kept while needed to evidence the image-use permissions and resolve related issues. Files copied solely for workshop-day review are retained only as long as needed for that review and any agreed follow-up. For the private edit and print package, we delete our working copies of your capture files and edited images six months after your private edit and print delivery are completed. Please keep your original files and backups. We assess retention against these purposes rather than keeping information indefinitely.
We retain interest-list details while needed to send the workshop updates you requested. We review this need when the workshop booking period ends. If you withdraw consent, we stop these emails and keep only any minimal record needed to honour your request. Information required for an existing booking or legal obligation is handled separately.
Your choices and rights
Only share practical information needed to support your attendance. If an accessibility or dietary request involves sensitive health information, contact us first to discuss what is necessary and how it will be handled.
Depending on the circumstances, you can request access to your personal information, correction, deletion, restriction or a portable copy, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Some records may need to be retained to meet legal obligations or deal with claims. Email workshops@clivebooth.co.uk to make a request or raise a concern. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
your responsibilities
You are responsible for your own camera equipment and personal belongings throughout the day, and should arrange any insurance you consider appropriate. Please follow venue guidance and any reasonable safety instructions. If you have an accessibility requirement, dietary need or other practical requirement that may help us support your visit, please let us know before the workshop.
age and attendance
Participants must be 18 or over on the day of the workshop, unless agreed otherwise in writing before booking. Every attendee requires a paid workshop place.
Participant Image Use Agreement
This agreement applies to photographs you make during the Movement and Light workshop organised by Clive Booth.
Your copyright
You retain copyright in your photographs. The workshop gives you access to dancers, locations and creative setups for learning and personal photography. It does not give you permission to use those images commercially.
What you can do
You may use your photographs for:
- Personal websites, personal or professional portfolios, and social media.
- Photography clubs, talks and educational presentations.
- Non-commercial competitions and exhibitions.
Whenever sharing or displaying your photographs, including in a portfolio, you must include the credit Created at the Clive Booth Movement and Light Workshop. Do not present it as commissioned work or imply endorsement by Clive, the dancers, the venue or any organisation involved.
What needs written permission
You must obtain Clive Booth’s written permission before:
- Selling prints or digital copies.
- Licensing images or supplying them to stock libraries.
- Using images in advertisements, promotional campaigns or product marketing. Display in a personal or professional portfolio is permitted, provided it does not imply commissioned work or endorsement.
- Supplying images to brands, agencies or publications for commercial use.
- Entering commercial competitions or allowing any other commercial use.
These restrictions also apply to prints supplied through the optional workshop printing package.
Dancers and other contributors
Your copyright does not give you commercial rights to the dancers’ likenesses, performances, costumes, venue or other contributors’ work. Additional permissions or fees may be needed for a proposed commercial use.
To request permission, email workshops@clivebooth.co.uk before using or supplying the images.
If these terms are not followed
You may be required to stop the unauthorised use and remove the images from publication. The Organiser may also pursue remedies available under this agreement or applicable law.
Your agreement
Every participant must personally read, accept and sign this agreement before the workshop begins. This is a condition of participation. The website interest form does not record acceptance of this agreement. You do not need to sign it simply to register interest. Clive will provide electronic-signing instructions as part of the booking follow-up; each participant must complete them before attending. When completing the agreement through Acuity, the participant must tick the agreement box and type their full name in the required participant-signature field. Ticking the box and typing your full name acts as your electronic signature and records your acceptance. You do not need to print, sign by hand or scan this page.
If you are booking for someone else, or transferring a place, contact workshops@clivebooth.co.uk so the actual participant can accept and sign separately. Do not sign on another participant’s behalf. Anyone whose acceptance was not recorded when booking must contact us to arrange electronic signing before the workshop begins. Simply viewing this page is not a signature.
liability
We will provide the workshop and any agreed additional services with reasonable care and skill. Please follow reasonable safety instructions and take care of your equipment and belongings. This does not remove our responsibility where loss or damage is caused by our breach of contract or negligence. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Your statutory consumer rights remain unaffected.
questions and complaints
Please email workshops@clivebooth.co.uk with your name, booking reference and a description of the issue. We will investigate and work with you towards a fair resolution. Please raise any problem during the workshop where possible so that we have an opportunity to put it right. This does not impose a deadline on exercising your statutory rights or prevent you from seeking independent advice or using the courts.
These terms are intended for this workshop and should be read alongside the booking information supplied at checkout. Please contact Clive Booth Workshops before booking if anything is unclear.
